Soakaway arrangement on 1984 house.
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.42 PM
Live in a 1984 house built by a national builder and am curious as to what type of soakaway arrangement was common in the day.We are detached and our garden is fairly small at 10 mtrs depth x 20 mtrs wide with houses to side and rear . Am curious as I’ve found a redundant clay pipe with collar at ground level next to where the plastic square rainwater pipe enters the ground. I may need to do some digging to see what that’s all about. Am greatful for any info

Back then soakaways were dug and filled with any rubble not much to them and covered over with polythene or a membrane with the pipe discharging into the rubble sometimes a small manhole before the soakaway but not always. If they fill in around the rubble then they begin to choke up alot better methods today but old ways still used
