Should I employ one company or individual tradesmen

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

I have a few unrelated jobs to do in my house. I am not sure if I should choose a general building company or employ individual tradesmen to do each job. Here is my list of jobs that need to be done: Replace or repair roof its a slate tile roof on a 3 storey small terrace house. There may also need to be some repointing to be done on the chimney. Replace ceiling in one of the bedrooms with plaster board and plaster. Strip woodchip off hall way and stairs involves high reach ceilings and replaster/skim. Install a fitted kitchen.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Either pick a good general contractor that will coordinate the jobs to the qualified trades. (Doing the organizing of trades for you) Or choose each trade at your specific timing and organization skills.

The more levels of sub contracting there are, the greater the cost as the upper contractor will take a piece of the pie for each subcontractor. The benefit of using one major contractor is you only having to deal with one person for billing, admin or complaints
