Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.22 PM

I have a really bad smell in the house but all toilets have been changed and bath and sink and even waste pipes from toilet.. still a nasty smell I can’t get rid of! Even downstairs intermittences valve has been changed! Can anyone help?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

by intermittences valve i assume you mean air admittance valve, these are fitted instead of an open vent to prevent syphonage of traps and seals in bath basins showers and wc,but they do not prevent back pressure in drain pushing drain gasses through traps thus giving rise to sewage smells in house, you need to consult a qualified plumber who knows what they are doing, you may need to install an open vent.

Has this just started? If so there is either a leak or a blockage somewhere, or the water that should be in the ubends is being pulled away - or evaporating. Can you identify which drain it's coming from (Sink, bath, Shower)? That would help to know. If it's none of those it could be a drain issue or a dead rat under the floor. Dead rats stink like - well, dead rats
