Loss of pressure in shower.

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

I have a combi boiler and sporadically the (every few months) the shower will lose hot water pressure, when this happens the boilers fires up at first then turns off and on despite the hot water taps being open on the shower/bath. The sinks still have hot water coming through and no interruption in pressure or temperature. The outside temperature has been around 3-4 degrees outside. Im at a keep loss at why this is happening and ideas?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Do you mean hot water pressure or hot water flow. It could be one of a couple of things, if you have a thermostatc shower you will adjust the flow according to outside temp, if you turn the hot down for more cold as you have a combi boiler this will slow the water down and the boiler will heat the water more, this in turn will cause the termostat to activate in the shower as the water is too hot resulting in more cold and then the boiler will not sense the flow and turn off. Thermostat closes hot water starts and so on...

If there is hot water coming out of the taps at the time of failure, it is a fault with the shower , probably the termostat cartridge.

The cartridge might need descaling or replacing in the shower mixer
