How durable would a plywood and felt garage roof be?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM
I need to replace my garage roof due to asbestos. I have been given a quote for replacing it with plywood and felt. My question is how durable would this solution be? I live in the U.K. so the weather will be windy and wet.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As long as the plywood is at least 22mm thick and a weatherproof ply is used the plywood should be perfectly sound the main weatherproofing is down to the felting now as long as that is done correctly you will never have to worry! Hope this helps

We use 18mm osb boards then GRP fibre glass and that will last longer than felt

By ply board do you mean stirling osb board. If so perfectly fine.
Most garages have osb boards on top before the felt.

Plywood should be fine I would recommend using 18mm exterior ply making sure there is a slight run on the roof to stop ponding, if you are using a reputable roofer who lays the felt correctly there should be no issues
