Connecting a Manrose Humidistat, Extractor and LEDs - Dimmer not triggering fan?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

We have the following setup in our bathroom: - Manrose Humidistat - External Extractor in the loft - Three recessed LED lights Currently, it's hooked up with a single light switch and all is working as expected. The lights go on and the extractor fires up on a timer. The extractor also fires up if it's humid in the bathroom. Now, we want to make the LEDs dimmable. We had an electrician come around to install a dimmer switch which is obviously LED compatible. The lights work fine and can be dimmed but when turning them on the fan doesn't turn on anymore. The humidistat still works as expected. The electrician had no idea and said the control signal from the humidistat is sending through full voltage. My brother had a guess that it has something to do with PWM or the 'upper' limit when dimmed which doesn't trigger the relay switch in the humidistat to fire up the fan. What are my options here? Would switching to halogen/analogue lights work? Could I look into some analogue low-pass filter and see if that works? I have searched online and discussed with a few people but keep hitting a dead end. Halogen lights are not ideal for multiple reasons so would rather find a solution that allows me to keep them as LEDs. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Why not just fit a small pir occupancy sensor ceiling mounted to trigger fan upstream of dimmer. Problem solved and no burnt out fan. Dimmer for lights. Fan turns on when you walk in. Will vent then if you poo with the light off

If the fans running with the humidstat there's no problem, as it should be set to trigger the fan when the humidity rises. If your finding condensation adjust the humidy to be more sensitive. No need for lights to trigger fan.
