New bath fitted, do i need to reinforce the floor?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.00 PM
I am having a new bath fitted, my plumber has said he wants to reinforce the floor first by applying thick plywood. Also he wants to apply plywood along the side of the bath and up the wall to seal the side of the bath! Is this necessary as i would have to remove all my tiles if he does it this way.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It depends the condition of the existing floor, if the existing floor boards are in good condition then I see now reason why he would need to strengthen the floor. It’s hard to give an accurate answer without seeing the floor!
Many thanks

From past experience of fitting bathrooms, I always tell my fitters to ply the floor with a minimum of 9mm board regardless the strength of the floor.
He is basically just covering his own back for any further problems which is a good thing as it sounds like he takes pride in his work.
However, as far as the walls go i've got no idea why you would board the walls with ply wood?
