Immersion heater
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.00 PM
Some years ago I had a new bathroom installed requiring the rerouting of the 2.5mm immersion heater cable. I have discovered that the cable used by the electrician direct to the 3 KW immersion heater is not heat resistant type. Is it acceptable to run a length of 2.5 mm heat resistant cable from the immersion heater to a suitable junction box in the loft which is then connected to the existing cable. The existing cable from the distribution box is not accessible being under the floor.

You need to fit a switched fused spur to the radial circuit & use butyl 3183TQ heat resistant flex from the fused spur to the immersion heater, hope this helps

Personally I would only use a spur if immersion’s been fed from the ring. If it’s a dedicated radial on its own Mcb then I would use a 20a dp switch.
