Vent requirement for warm air heating boiler

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

We have Johnson Starley boiler (J25-32R mk 3) in our landing (1st floor). There is an external wall in the landing and a window. We always had a vent on the glass pane of the window and always passed gas safety checks. When we changed the window to double glazed, the installer fitted a vent on the window which can be closed. I believe there is a requirement that the vent should be permantly open type. But is there also a requirement that the vent should be on the wall as opposed on the window glass?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The size of the vent is calculated by taking the total output of the boiler minus 7kw from this and then multiply the remainder by 5cm2 The vent needs to be non closeable have no insect screens and preferably fitted to the external wall. Also if the boiler is in a cupboard it may also need high and low level ventilation to the cupboard. Check the manufacturers instructions if you have them or download them from the internet I would strongly suggest you get a gas safe registered engineer to come and assess and fit ventilation accordingly.
