Light switches- Hall, upstairs/downstairs

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

In the hall/landing we have one light upstairs and one light downstairs. Currently downstairs, there is a double switch to work the upstairs and downstairs light. But upstairs there is only a single switch to work the upstairs light. I want to be able to work the downstairs light from upstairs. Could anyone please tell me if I can just swap the single switch for a double, or could it be that the correct wiring may not be there?

In order for you to achieve the switching you require, you would have to install a new 3 core and earth cable from the upstairs switch to the downstairs switch and also to purchase a 2 gang 2 way switch which would be compatible with the switching you require. Hope this helped Smart Safe Electrics

No there is no wiring to do this. You would need a 3 core and earth between the 2 switch positions. Or fit a new fangled rf switch

Hi, unfortunately you will need to add another cable in between the switches for you to be able to do this however it is definitely achievable. Thanks
