Laminate flooring in bathrooms and kitchen of a new build

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.22 PM

Hi, We will be moving into a new build and would like to have our own floors installed as the builder has limited (and expensive) options. We would like laminate flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms, but have been told by two flooring companies that it is not advised in the bathrooms. The laminate that we want is supposed to be the most waterproof laminate available. The other thing that we were told is that we would have to get a plumber in to lift all the sanitaryware as the laminate should be placed underneath as it's very difficult to cut around. The other option that was suggested were the (more expensive) luxury vinyl tiles, and we haven't found any that we like yet. We would really welcome your opinion, and if there is anything else we should be aware of in both the kitchen and bathroom.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

There are a number of waterproof laminated available now but in my opinion the original and best is Quickstep Hydra Seal which is applied to most of their range now. As for the sanitary ware in the bathroom, it is a better finish if they can be removed but it isn’t always possible and there is other solutions available such as reducing the expansion gap around them and apply a neat bead of sealant.
