Loose mosaic tiles in shower

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.42 PM

We have a few loose mosaic tiles in our shower. They are the bottom line of tiles which are siliconed on the bottom edge to the shower tray. Is it possible to fix this? I do think they are causing a leak as we seem to have a water mark on kitchen ceiling underneath the bathroom. We don’t have any replacement tiles of the same kind. Or will it be a case of having the whole shower retiled? And is this possible in an existing shower cubicle?

Hi there. This can be fixed, just find some other mosaics that will match as close as posible and if you dont mind the difference then go ahead and do the patching work other wise if you are a bit picky and you have the funds for a whole retilng job then go ahead and retile. To patch it all you have to do is take an angle grinder or multitool with a grout rake extention along a horizontal grout line at least 10-15 cm above the shower tray so the area where you remove the mosaics is big enough for you to work comfortably. Once off, retile, regrout and re mastic. Shouldnt take a profesional more then half a day to do but you will most probably be charged for the day i.e £180 for the labour. I hope all this was some what helpful

you'll probably find that due to water ingress the problem will be more than you assume Get a local Tiler in to assess and give you the correct solution and costing. But certainly something that can be rectified.
