Bathroom Fitting

Do walls need to be taken back to bare brick?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi, we’re currently getting quotes for a bathroom refit. Some are advising to take the walls from tiles to bare brick, others to just remove the tiles and tile on existing plaster. We’re confused as to which is the best option. Would really appreciate some advice! Thanks.

Hi there some times existing walls can be out. Taking it back to bare brick allows it to be re-boarded level. It saves time on the tiling there saves money and also gives a lot nicer finish. The cost for stripping it back outways the cost for the tilers time (usually). Hope this helps.

if plaster is loose remove it, if not leave it a just reskim and tile over afterwards. it all depends on your budget, I try to work with my clients budget in mind finding the best way to provide a finish that they are happy with and will stand the test of time. sometimes this isn't possible due to budget restrictions or other factors but I advise the client and allow them to choose what they wish to prioritise. usually a compromise can be reached.
