Where to start with proposed garage conversion with room above plus loft above that?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

I live in a small 3 bed semi about 30 years old. I want to increase the size of my house without encroaching onto the back garden. I would like to convert the garage into living space, build over the garage to create an additional bedroom upstairs, and ideally also build over that to create a new bigger roof to create a continuous large loft space to use for storage. We will need this to replace our existing storage area which is currently the garage. An added complication is that the garage is attached on the other side to next door's garage. Also my current house roof is hipped hence our existing loft space is tiny. I have no idea whether any of that is even structurally possible, so where is the best place to start? Structural engineer? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First step is to speak to a local architect who will come out free of charge and give you some ideas. He'll then give you a figure for putting drawings together, he will have access to a structural engineer. Between them they will come up with drawings to submit to your local council, once planning has been granted you will need to obtain Building Regulations which will be put together by your architect. Once all in place you'll need a reputable builder like us :) We can do all the above for you and take the headache away. All subject to where you live. Good luck
