Asbestos roof removal
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.42 PM
I have a shared outhouse roof with next door and wondered if you can remove the half that is mine leaving theirs untouched? Or if all would have to be removed as cutting/only removing mine would cause damage / make their roof dangerous
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes it's possible to remove your half leaving there's untouched. We have done many roofs in this situation.

You need qualified tradesmen to remove asbestos as it needs to be correctly transported to a dump that accepts asbestos. It can give a big fine if you transport it yourself incorrectly as it's labelled hazardous to the environment. Under the party wall act you need to inform your neighbours minimum 2 months prior to works. (They need to consent to works in writing.)
Yes it can be done but under correct circumstances, i'd recommend replacing the whole roof which would require your neighbour to pay there half.

I would say if its all joined up its best to change all of it even the neighbors side. maybe come to an agreement to go half's on the bill? cutting asbestos will release fibres in to the air which isn't good for yourself or anybody in the area it is nasty stuff to work with. Hope this helped
