Fix / Improve the noise caused by expanding pipes when bath empties
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.00 PM
Each time the bath water drains we hear a ticking noise which sounds like a leak but have come to learn it is the expansion of the pipes with the heated water flowing through. I didn't used to mind it but it has got much worse which makes me think it can be fixed or improved. I don't see any pipes rubbing together. Any idea how this can be fixed/improved?

The ticking noise you can hear is probably the hot water entering the soil stack and causing it to expand.
Is the soil stack internal and running through the property from the ground floor and up through the roof and vented out through the roof. You could remove the boxing from around the stack if this is the case. Then pack it with rock wool insulation and replace the boxing this will help deaden the noise.
