Is it possible to place a cooker where the chimney currently is
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM
1st floor flat in a 1930’s semi detached house. We would like to remove the central part of the chimney and place the stove and cooker in there. There is already an old gas supply to there. The chimney opening is already up to waist height. The extractor fan needs to be a carbon filter wherever it ends up in the kitchen. Is this possible especially with the weight of supports (worried about the ground floor below) whilst a new lintel is been built?

If this is a cooker with a gas hob then you need to make sure there is sufficient clearance above the hob. Typically this is a height somewhere between 650 and 750mm. The user instruction manual states the actual clearance in it's installation section. This is normally referred to as the clearance zone.
If you intend to also put the extractor fan in this opening, it also states the minimum height it needs to be above a hob. Whichever is the greater of the 2 should be used.
This will most likely require placing a little higher up and raising the top of the opening. I would definitely use a biolder for this as they will have the equipment (across props) to support the chimney during the alteration.
As for the "stove" you would b
Need to look at the installation instructions for that
