Sheet Vinyl Lino onto Travertine Tiles

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

Hi, I have a very small bathroom (7ft x 4.5 ft) which currently has travertine floor tiles (the ones with natural holes in them which looks a bit like cinder toffee). I want to lay sheet lino on top of the tiles, will this be ok? I have been told that the grouting and any imperfections from the travertine tiles will show through but will this be such a problem as I have such a small bathroom and with a bath mat down you can hardly then see much of the floor. I don't want to get it screed as I don't want to increase the height of the floor any more than it is. Or would I be able to just use the screed to just skim over the tiles so the grout lines and holes are just filled ? I would be attempting all of this myself and I've never done anything like this before so any help / advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I advise the purchase of self levelling compound. Mix as per instructions and splat it onto the floor, then use a rubber tiling float to move the compound about to fill the holes and grout lines and any other imperfections. Once this has gone off, put your lino down. Follow the instructions on the compound though or it can go off a bit quick...

I would advise the buy a self leveling compound also just before you lay your your self leveling compound just paint some pva on to the tiles to make sure that the self leveling compound doesn't blow as I have seen this before and then vary as normal your bathroom will look amazing after
