Astrea tiles waste? Hot to cut

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

Does anyone work with the Topps Tiles Astrea type? They are metro style (not bevelled) 100x200 size. They have cracked surface. They are rather pricey! How much waste should I expect? Do they cut well? What is the best way to cut them?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I usually work 15% waste. As it’s better to have to many tiles than not enough, getting extra tiles can cause problems as different batch numbers can be a slightly different size and shade. Most tile supplyers will let you take full boxes back for refund. You have to seal Astrae tiles to stop the grout bleeding into the surface cracks. (Unless that’s a feature you want). They cut fine with a wet or dry cutter.
