Bath water runs lukewarm, shower/basin are scalding!

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.45 PM

Hi, Got a Combi boiler - moved into our place 3 years ago and all water flow temperatures were fine - the bath hot tap actually got hot. Over the past year the hot tap for the bath has progressively got colder, and now we can only get a lukewarm bath. Shower and bathroom sink get very hot, however I've noticed that both used to gradually change from cold to hot when you turn the dial/move the mixer tap from one side to the other, however now are very sensitive. i.e. if you move the shower dial half a millimeter it goes scalding hot and it's near impossible to get it right. With the sink it's the same, and it's very hard to get a warm temperature - it's either very hot or freezing cold! Maybe the bath not getting hot at all, and the shower/basin taps either being freezing/boiling are two separate issues that need tackling, or maybe they are linked?? Any one know why this might be happening? I need to get it fixed asap! Thanks

If you identify the cold inlet valve under the Combi boiler and turn this off - you will be isolating the boiler from cold water so there should be no water physically coming out of your hot taps. If you do still have water coming out of your taps, then it’s likely you have a fault with a mixer tap (in most cases the shower one). This could actually affect all the taps in the property.

Or you may have a fault with blender . If there is one fitted? Either long run of pipework to the bath that isn't lagged. A dead leg.
