Plumbing

male 1/2 BSP fitting for mixer shower

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

I have a new mixer shower valve, cold in, hot in, mix out (top); the valve has 1/2 inch BSP female connectors; ive got a 1/2 inch male to 15mm compression for each connection however i am somewhat nervous about the connection as it doesnt seem tight and there isnt a washer on the male BSP fitting. Usually i would wrap the male in PTFE tape or jointing compound but am wondering in this case if i should try and source an appropriate washer. Is my usual approach ok or does it need something different ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi from the description you have given it would normally require two washers to make the connection water tight.

Hi i fitted a shower mixer valve last week, i wrap the male thread with ptfe and a lick of jointing compound on the female thread then tighten with a adjustable spanner making sure the internal of the fitting into the valve is clean. In some cases rubbers are needed ie bar shower valves on the end of a male connection
