Convert single socket to fused spur
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.20 PM
Can I convert a single socket that is on the ring (one wire in, one wire out) to a FCU then run two double sockets off it in opposite directions? Or would I be better to spur off the single to the FCU then run the doubles off that (which I’d prefer not to do due to limited space)? Thanks

Hi Neil,
In my recommendation, I would first establish that the cable in and out are definitely a complete ring circuit (via testing). Once you have confirmed this as a ring circuit, then what you have suggested with regards to taking two sockets from the newly fitted FCU is acceptable.

If its a Ring circuit then Yes, have in and out on the supply side and new sockets on the Load side.
Highly reccomend a Qualified Electrician who will make sure everything is installed to regs, as a simple cable termination can terminated so wrong! If you go ahead your self, get an Qualified Electrician to check your work.
