Where to cap the gas pipe
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.45 PM
I would like to know what the legal requirement for a landlord is when capping off the gas supply to the property. I have switched to an electric boiler and the the installer capped the gas off in the boiler room. I have been told by the lettings agent that this is unsafe and it must be capped outside the property? Both are gas safe registered engineers

Hi, there is no legal requirement as to where you cap as long as it is gas tight, but if there are no gas appliances in the property a disc cap in the meter would be preferred.

The gas supply should be capped as near to its source as possible ie. the gas meter leaving in as little dead leg as possible.

The estate agent is wrong. The pipe can be capped anywhere
