Type of Flooring to go for if Allergies

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.21 PM

Looking for some advice on flooring, Downstairs we have wood flooring / tiles in the house Upstairs we we have carpet in the bedrooms/landing (and tiles in the bathroom) the carpet probably been in place for 5 years (possibly more) We have an an allergy in the house which is caused by dust triggers (leads to asthma) Now the easy option is to remove the carpet and move to wood flooring , my worry here is the current house which can get cold will suffer from even lower temperatures What do you suggest, is there a 'safe' carpet allergy option? How does one retain heat through wood flooring ? Thoughts?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Have you considered a underfloor heating under the laminate Howdens and magnet trade is good place to buy. Alternatively office thin tile carpet is very good and easy to clean.

Replacing your carpets will considerably reduce the dust in your bedrooms. A good underlay combined with underfloor heating will help to keep the heat in, for a wood flooring. You may as well have your insulation checked and if necessary replaced to help keep the house warm.

This is a question we get always and as you already know, replacing the carpet might not necessarily solve the problem as more dust will accumulate over time. My best advise would be to move to wooden floors and install it with an underlay that has got very good insulation and noise reduction capabilities. Ideally it should have silver back. This way, you don't have to shell out big on underfloor heating. A good thickness of wood, at least 14mm thick and this silver back underlay, and that would do the job. I hope this helps.
