Missing part of skirting board

Whilst redecorating my bedroom I have found some skirting board is missing,I'm looking at getting carpet put down instead of the wooden floor. Do I need to replace the skirting board for this and if so can I just replace the missing part without having to get it all redone?

Hi, it is better to replace the missing piece, if you can get the same size skirting, you can just replace the missing piece, hopefully you can find some.

Hi you can just replace the part what is missing if you wanted to. And the sand down and fill. Then paint the skirting boards.
