Chimney & Fireplace

Type of chimney terminal for HE gas fire

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.45 PM

Hello, we would like to change our existing old gas fire in our standard brick chimney in our 1930s house, for a High Efficiency glass fronted log effect gas fire and new surround. We had a survey and on their quote they said our existing chimney pot was illegal and would need to be changed at an extra cost. We have a perfectly good terracotta large louvre style chimney pot. We cannot find one bit of information that states these aren't suitable. The engineer said the horizontal slots were an issue. No issue in the past and smoke test fine. The diameter is big enough so is he stringing us a line or is there something in the regs for these fires we haven't been able to find? Any advice on this specific issue would be great as we can't access the relevant building regs section to confirm. Many thanks

Hi there. In most cases manufacturers instructions will state the type of flue terminal required for the installation. If you can get the info on the fire you are interested in then you should be able to confirm wether your terminal is suitable or not. Alternatively, you could contact the manufacturers directly and ask them. Hope this helps.
