Large gaps between new skirting and LVT flooring

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.21 PM

Hi all, We're undergoing renovation due to flood damage and we had a new LVT floor laid and then skirting installed over this. There are gaps between the skirting and floor some larger than the depth of three pound coins high. The floor is 100% level as I've checked with a level and when I replaced them myself last year they were 95% flush to the floor so is the chippy is to blame? Update - Skirting was fitted with these large gaps from the start we didn't notice until yesterday when the black floor protection was removed as this was quite thick stuff. It was screwed onto the walls from what I saw and told the contractors yesterday when we saw how large the gaps are, the have offered to fill with silicone??

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi if as you say your floor is level, was the skirting board fitted with these large gaps from the start or have the got worse since fitting? do you know if the skirting was stuck to the wall or screwed as this could affect the skirting once fitted. it sounds as though the skirting has warped because if the gap was so large when the job was first completed I presume you would have told the contractor then. Did you supply the skirting or did the contractor? if the contractor supplied ask him to come round and take a look, he may be able to add pressure to the top of the skirting and bend it down and then add a new fixing to keep it in place. without knowing the full scenario it is very difficult to say who if anyone is at fault.
