letterbox so deep bolts stick out other side so cant put back on

letterbox in old 1930's door so deep bolts stick out other side so cant put a back on or a letter tidy but the only way the front will fit is with long bolts, any advice please? Thank you.

need to see but possibly some good screws and some repairs it will be back to normal without sticking out bolts or damage

Pictures would be useful but fit the letter box as usual with the longer bolts and then shorten (carefully with hacksaw or multi-tool) the protruding bolts on the back-side of the door which will keep the nuts flush against the door. A lot of door furniture is supplied to fit different thickness doors, its usually just a case of customising to make it work. Never be afraid to customise!
