Chances of planning permission

Hi, I live in an end terrace house, I have slight side extension but I'd like to move it to the boundary - I'd also like to add a second floor (two storey) The other side of the boundary is a semi detached property Is it likely I could get planning permission to build such an extension? The width would be 2.5m (this is to the fence line that separates me from the semi detached) and a length of 7.5 - height would be to the maximum height or eaves Any help appreciated Thanks

Generally a side extension should be no more than half the width of the original house, the first floor should be set back by up to 1m from the front of the original house and the roof should be lower than the original house. This is necessary to avoid a terracing affect. Providing you meet the above you've got a good chance. A good indication is whether there are examples of similar extensions in your area.

it completely depends on distance from neighbours, size of plot and style of house. The 1m front setback mentioned above is incorrect - most councils will be satisfied with 300mm setback, but again this depends on the property. Some also don't mind a flush roof ridge line and flush front elevation - but this depends on the authority and other factors.You need to speak with an architect or designer who can visit your property and discuss it all in more detail and have a good look around. hope this helps....
