Looking to take down an internal wall that doesn’t support any floor joists or anything above
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.45 PM
Hello there, I’m looking to take down a wall that devides a kitchen and dinning room. I thought the wall was a load bearing wall however I have just opened up the top of the wall and the floor joists above go the same way as the wall so are not on the wall. Basically there is about a foot gap between the wall and the above ceiling so doesn’t support anything above. Is the wall ok to remove?

Sounds ok to me, but may be best to speak to a building surveyor or structural engineer. Just to be certain.

Happy to come out and survey. Doesn't sound as if it would be a problem.

if there is nothing resting on the wall above then it will be fine to remove, but would definitely recommended getting an expert out to check.

Agree either make a small hole big enough to look at the top of the wall both rooms .Its easier to make good a ceiling rather than not check and there is a crash around you which could cost a lot of money to put right .
