New carpets and grippers on stairs

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

Hi, I asked for new underlay, grippers and carpets on stairs but I can already feel the gripper when I walk on the stairs. Not lived in a place with stairs before, is this normal? Thanks in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You shouldn't be able to feel gripper through the carpet, unless the carpet was very very thin.

The gripper should be fitted around where you are walking and not be able to feel it through the carpet

With gripper sticks you get High pin, Medium pin and Low pin gripper (pins are the sharp spikes on gripper).Depending on the thickness of carpet you have chosen you would have to choose the correct gripper. However I have experienced myself after fitting really thin carpet on stairs even when using Low pin gripper that you do tend to feel spikes in some areas so what I do is wherever I feel a spike I get a hammer and tap the area gently until I can no longer feel it Hope this helps 👍
