Do we need to rebuild our chimney breast?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.21 PM
Our chimney breast has been rebuilt at the front with breeze block. There was a gas fire (which didn’t work) that we took out (which is when we found the breeze block). Initially we were thinking of a wood burning stove and the Advice was that we either needed to rebuild the chimney in brick or the glue man said we could fit a fixed pipe flue to the back of the chimney/back wall which could then change to a flexi flue after it had reached the ceiling. We are now thinking of getting a gas fire instead due to the environmental concerns about word burning stoves. Would we have the same issues with a gas fire (we were thinking of getting one that looks like a wood burning stove if that makes any difference). Many thanks! Am adding to my question as there seems to be no way to reply! Not sure if you will see this but thanks for replying. Re the environmental concerns. Unfortunately although Woodburning stages are usually carbon neutral they emit very toxic particles into the air and due to the rise they are now contributing significantly to outdoor air pollution. “an Ecodesign stove still creates the same amount of particle pollution as around 18 new Euro 6 standard diesel cars.” In an urban area especially they are not really appropriate. I am not sure I fully understand your response with regard to the chimney breast. Are you saying we can use twin wall on the back of the breeze block to line the chimney breast and then use flexi flue? Does this meet the UK gas flue requirements? Many thanks again
