Kitchen Fitting

Cooking Smell from next door

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

I live in a mid terrace my neighbours kitchen is adjoining mine and our extractors fans are in exact same positions, as in they are back to back, i can constantly smell their cooking, they use a lot of spices so it can sometimes be very over powering and stinks my kitchen, if I turn my extractor fan the smell sometimes goes, is there something wrong? Should we able to smell their cooking if they have their extractor fan on? Why is their cooking smells coming through ouR extractor fan, im not sure if they can smell ours we have never discussed it with them, The Houses are only 4 years old

You could fit hooded cowls to the outside if these are not fitted, if mutually, you both fit these, you will see that they direct the exhaust downwards, and direct the smells away from each other. These can be purchased from tool station / screwfix under ventilation Hope this helps Regards ian

Well, the next door neighbours extract has to be on when they cook, but you can’t force them to turn it on.

Speak to your neighbour and offer a soloution to the problem. These are probably your best bet https://www.screwfix.com/c/heating-plumbing/air-vents/cat840496?brand=manrose. This way you won’t be getting a direct flow of the air/smell that’s extracted from your neighbours property plus they are a cheaper alternative then moving the vent so it’s not in the direct air flow of your neighbors extraction. Although this vent May not irradiate the problem but will definitely reduce. Hope this helps Regards George
