Restoration & Refurbishment

Refurbishment job took longer than said and not happy with the finish and they still want

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

Just had a refurbishment of newly bought property. New kitchen, paintwork, carpets and bathroom radiator. Job was supposed to be finish in 16th October 2018 but wasn't until 21st December 2018. Had to get them back to finish the painting, redo the flooring and other snags. All in all the job was poorly managed and I'm still not happy with the finish. The hallways walls still have holes that should have been plastered before painting. They said there is a leak in the pump of the central heating system but still provided us with a gas safety certificate. Now they want me to pay the final invoice for the whole job. I'm not happy with it and for the delays and I don't want anymore workmen coming around as I have a toddler. Is there anything I can say to the Quantity Surveyor to reconsider the price. Total job is about £20k. I thought about giving him a snags list but I think he will just get the men back in but this isnt what I want. Why could they not have done the job properly in the first place. I've lost my trust in this company and am fed up. Also, no contract was drawn up, only a quote and not all things are in writing. Silly of me. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Update: I have paid most of the job except for £2K which he is chasing for. Have emailed him snags but he will not reply on email. Only wants to talk on phone but I refuse as I need things in writing now.

write and tell them to put it right, give them a time frame to do so,if they do not put it right to your satisfaction, get a quote from another contractor to put it right ,withhold final payment untill you are satisfied, your central heating pump does not need a gas safe certificate.

Hi if your in Scotland then emails and such things are regarded as a contract. If you are in England it's more difficult. You can get a different more trusted company in to fix the issues and get a quote to do so. The tell the surveyor it was coming off his bill. As long as you haven't paid anything and you ensure him that you do not think he is capable of actually providing what your looking for. This is what I would do. It may seem harsh but seems like they haven't really considered you in all of this so why have consideration for them.

Hi I would personally recommend telling whoever is in charge your concerns transparently and they may well listen and come up with some solutions for you A good business deals with its customer issues as opportunities Even the best businesses encounter issues in my view it’s how they deal with these and put them right I can help further if you need me to
