Is it cheaper to hire individual tradespeopke to complete extension

Hi, Although it may be cheaper to project manage your extension yourself it is not a definite. Organising and coordinating trades is not as easy as you may imagine and often results in the work dragging on adding to the cost plus disruption to the household can be very frustrating. I would always say it is cheaper to get the whole project done by one contractor. That way you are getting a price for the whole project rather than risking get different quotes from different trades at different times! Also this would be on a better planned schedule rather than ringing up people when you are ready for the next trade, a good contractor would have this all planned. Hope this helps :)

as pep said use a main contractor who has good subcontractors already he can give a cost quote not estimate and what they will build for that as by doing it yourself you will not know the speed in which each trade should be working and can cost more in the long run also if they quoted they need to do the work stated in the quote for that price if it takes for instance 4 days to do something rather than 2 you dont have to sort the extra cost the contractor swallows it if no main contractor you will be paying trades extra each time a little problem holds them up. its also very stressful I know I am a main contractor but I work out all the materials everything no matter how little the quantities the cost when to order for the right time when to inform the next trade to come in how long it will all take and you may think online has these answers it never works like that the prices are inaccurate online its says cheaper than builds really cost says bricky lays 1000 a day usually this is not possible they may lay anywhere between 350-1500 in a day which is a massive difference in timing and therefor cost overall. one chippy can hang 15 doors with his jig other 4-6 with his tools so many differences its un real. also you will need to check all their Cscs cards to make sure all are Nvq 2 in their trade or higher and all have public liability covering to do their work. also see there previous quality and hear from at least 1 previous reference on this person.
