Cracks appearing in 70mm screed floor over UFH

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

We had the whole of the ground floor of our house screeded (130sqm) on top of UFH in October 18. 7 cracks have started to appear in various locations all but one starting from a doorway or pillar corner and the other one going from one wall to another width ways. 3 of the cracks can fit a 2p piece inside though none of them are straight. The UFH was turned on 3 weeks after the floor was laid for few hours each day. Is this normal or acceptable or do these cracks need to be filled with an appropriate material?

It does happen when there is screed above ufh But I usaly wait up to 5 weeks to turn heating on If the floor still feels solid I wouldn't worry about it

must have turned heating on full whack. heating should be switched on low and raised very gradually for first few weeks..

a general rule is that concrete requires a drying time of approx. a day per 1mm. so in theory it should have been left to dry naturally for a minimum of 70 days then slowly increase the UFH to normal levels (18 - 24 degrees) over a 24 hr period. If you are still unsure of the resulting cracks then I would get an site engineer to look at it?
