Do I need to cap the flue if boarding up a fireplace?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.44 PM

We are about to board up a fireplace (where there was a small gas fire) and have the room skimmed on the ground floor. The whole house has a suspended wooden floor and air ventilation bricks in all external walls. Do we need to have the flue capped off or, if not, a small vent put in the wall to avoid condensation/damp. Or will the sub-floor ventilation be sufficient to prevent damp if the flue is not capped?

all unused fires should be capped at roof level and vented at room level to prevent water ingress from the chimney stack & a build up of condensation in the flue. good luck alex
