Do I need matting under tiles on a concrete floor with UFH
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.21 PM
Beam and block floor in new extension. 'Water-pipe underfloor heating' newly installed. Concrete screed over pipes. Need a tiled floor in Travertine. Do I need matting to stop the tiles from cracking? The concrete has dried for a year and hasn't cracked. 40m2 area - approx 10m x 4m floor area.

It is good to have decoupling membrane under tiles anyway. We would always use membrane to any floor tiling, for the reason if we are providing warranty on job, we just make sure it lasts.
Matting would prevent tiles from not just concrete cracking, but also vibrations and any other structural movements.

It is not essential to lay matting on underfloor heating providing you use an s1 flexable adhisive but me personally would recommend a de coupling membrane regards Lee
