Kitchen Fitting

New sink in kitchen. Will cut out be too bug

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

I have an old kitchen sink [1000mm x 500mm] that I want to change for a new granite or maybe glass sink. On the spec for these new sinks it says to have the cut out 300mm-400mm smaller than the size of the sink. Will this be a problem for me as my current sink cut out is the full 1000mm x 500mm? I imagine it has something to do with weight? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Without pictures it is hard to advise, but by the sounds of things you are going to need a new top. If you can do some images of your current top and the sink you want to fit I might be able to help more...

Hi ... if your existing sink has a overall size of 1000mm x 500mm the hole cut out to fit in the worktop would be 970 x 470 or slightly smaller . When fitting the same size composite or granite type, or ceramic sink of the same size, the hole cut out would be the same . You Need to measure 15 mm in from each side of the new sink and that's the size of the hole you need to cut out. When your fitting the sink just use clear silicone it's better than the foam strips supplied with some sinks.
