Gas Works

Why would a Gas Safe plumber refuse to register my gas hob?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

I had a gas hob installed by a Gas Safe Engineer. I checked his registration and it is up to date. Nothing dodgy. But after 3 months and consistent requests, he stil hasn’t registered the work with Gas Safe. I understand that because it is a flueless gas appliance, registration is optional but if a customer requested it don’t you think it is easy enough to do? Too bad I paid so he has zero incentive to do this. I even started offering extra money, but that hasn’t resulted in a certificate yet. Sigh, what do you think is the issue? Makes me feel uneasy too. Is there anything I can do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Are you a council tenant? If so your Landlord will insist on a 'notification of works' despite Tri Installations comment which is true in most instances but not if the customer is a council tenant! Or the installer can self certify the installation of this particular appliance if you asked him to before paying him, regardless of whether you are a council tenant or private resident. You really should of done some research before he under took the installation so you are prepared with the facts and known entitlement!

Only space heating appliances are notifiable under building control and this is usually done via gas safe. Cooking appliances don’t require notification.

'' You do not need to notify the installation of a new gas cooker under the Building Regulations, but you may report it if your customer would like to receive a Declaration of Safety Certificate confirming that this has been done by a correctly qualified and registered business. '' |Hope this helps
