Noisy toilet is noisy

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

My downstairs toilet is making a humming noise at fist I thought it was the extraction fan but as it became louder I realised it’s the cistern ,it stops when the toilet is flushed but now it comes back straight away we do not have any pumps on the cold water system and nothing else is affected also it does not stop if I turn on a tap

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

ball valve in cistern is doing this, you might have a low pressure orifice in it and it needs a high pressure one, your best bet is to replace it with an equilibrium valve.

Hi This will be due to the diaphragm washer inside the filling valve worn down and where the ball valve closes of the valve - can’t reach the washer fully to shut of the water therefore making a vibration sound this is simply (wear n tear up n down motion ) a simple washer change should do the job . change the ball valve in the cistern. probably got some grit in it refraining the pressure of water when cistern is filling back up. they are easily available from diy shop.
