New tarmac driveway

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

Around a month ago we had tarmac laid on our driveway. From it first being completed it didn't look right. The tarmac seems very patchy and isn't the smooth finish we expected. I have finally heard back from the company who did the job and they say it needs a 'top coat' Is this correct or are they just trying to cover their mistakes with a temporary measure?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

After 20mm base coat Tarmac you can either use 6 MM. or 10 MM size topping stone the 10mm is a little bit bigger in size of stone but defanately stronger

first you dig out the area that is going to be tarmaced. Then put down a layer of stone(type of stone crusher run stone)then a layer of basecoat tarmac, finally a layer of topping tarmac.

Agree with the other man. Should be done in stages prep stage base with stone rubble ECT whacker it down. Apply tar in layers water and whacker as you go. Make sure tar stays hot? Sounds to me it got to cold hints the rough finish. Top cost will just hide it and come away over time

Once stoned up and prepped, a sub-base would be installed and compacted before a final coat of tarmac spread and compacted to the correct level therefore yes they are correct however they should of done this all in the space of a few days.
