Lights tripped but now only one won't come back on

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.44 PM

Hi, I've just come home from work, walked into the lounge and pressed the dimmer switch on. There was a loud crack, and all the lights in the flat went off. I went to the fuse box and the switch marked "lights" was down, so I clicked it back up. Now all the other lights in my flat work again (including another fitting in the same room operated from the same dimmer switch) but the original one still doesn't. It has 3 bulbs attached to it, I have tried taking them all out individually, but it still doesn't work. I've also tried turning all the electrics in the flat off at the fuse and back on again. Does anybody have any advice, please? Thank you so much, Vicki EDIT: Thank you so much for the responses, I feel reassured that I'm not missing a really obvious solution! I will ask around for a reliable electrician. I now can't remember if the light is turned on or off, is it likely to be dangerous at all? I'm really scared it's going to burst into fire or something!

At least you know the source of the fault...the fitting that doesn’t work anymore. I suspect you had a loose connection at the fitting and when you turned it on it has come adrift somewhere. Quick fix for an electrician.
