What to do with boiler whilst on holiday ??

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

Hi I have a vaillant ecotec plus 824 boiler. Going away for two weeks this winter whats the best way to avoid frozen pipes and not have a massive bill when i come back. asked a few people and narrowed it to two: 1. leave it on a timer once a day for 1 hr ( will that be enough to stop pipes from freezing?) 2. set thermostat to 10 degrees ( but won't this result the boiler turning on multiple times during the day?) any suggestion from professionals would greatly be appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

have a frost stat fitted to your system, but first check that your boiler does not have one fitted internally in boiler.

if u read your boiler book there is a holiday setting which will allow your boiler to switch itself on if the house drops below 5 degrees.it does this to protect your property.or it will have a frost protection setting on the front panel. i think this boiler is just one push of a button on boiler keyboard read user instructions

Or you could try just reading the manufacturers user manual! If you don't have one then download from the manufacturers web site.
