Installing a floor in steel shed

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.21 PM

Hi I’ve just had a steel shed erected. My builder had this screwed into a concrete picture frame. He then put down a plastic membrane on top of hardcore and used sand and cement over this for the floor. I’ve been told that this is not strong enough and will always absorb moisture from the air and cause condensation. I’ve been advised to take this floor out and start again with a proper concrete floor. Builder says this is nonsense. I’d be grateful for any advice. Thank you

Hi yes you need hard-core down first then it to be whacked then a blinding of sand over it to prevent and hard-core puncturing the dpm. Sand and cement isn't good enough you need concrete and reinforcing mesh only if there's weight being stored on it. I hope this helps.

Your sub floor should be hard core then sand then dpm then sharp sand and cement at 75mm minimum depth. Or possibly sand if there is a chance of damage to the dpm then dpm mesh full concrete.
