How do fix my skirting problem?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.41 PM

Hi, I am redecorating my living room and have taken out the old fireplace. It was rather large and the fireplace I am replacing it with is small. This means there’s a gap where there is no skirting boards which I now need to fit. The trouble is the skirting boards will meet at an external corner which has a square edge because when they were fitted, it was square up to the old fireplace. Without taking the old skirting board up and replacing them, I don’t know how else I can get around it. Does anyone have any ideas? I really hope that makes sense!

Take the old skirting off the wall cut it at 45 degrees to splice another bit into it. Job done.

Better off take the peice of and running new peice in rather than have a joint on the run in my opinion but is possible to remove and cut at 45 and a new peice at 45 to join together
