Is it normal to have a horizontal join in shower in different sizes ?.
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.59 PM
In the middle of having bathroom redone by insurance approved company, they have installed 10mm wet wall where the shower will be,but only so far up the wall, then it changes from 10mm to 5mm and there is a white joining strip with a lip at the top water can lie in (unless they fill it with silicone that is).Got the surveyor from the company to come check it and he said they can't get panels in full height to ceiling,is this right ?.Have pics if anyone wants to see.

hi
The showers are zone 1 of humidity in the bathrooms. Therefore the background should be fully waterproof, same as the top layer to protect the structure of water damage.
If do you think the water(liquid or steam ) will go behind the top surface, then it is a problem.
with kind regards

Is it Wet Wall as in MDF or plywood with laminate on front and back? These are generally 2.4 MTRS high and come in 1.2, 0.9 & 0.6 MTRS width so unless they've been fitted horizontal you should only have a vertical corner join and caps on the end of the panels if it's within a shower cubicle or possibly a vertical join on a long run if they're not tongue and groove.
Even if you have plastic panels these are generally 2.4 -3.0 MTRS long depending on manafacturer and vary in width from 0.25 MTRS - 1.0 MTRS. These can be laid horizontal depending on pattern but should all be the same thickness. Something doesn't sound right there???
