Position of post supporting rsj with plate
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.41 PM
I have just had goal posts installed which is holding up an RSJ with a plate. The RSJ total width is 30CM and the plate protrudes out by 12cm. So 18cm RSJ plus 12cm plate = 30cm full width in total. The builders have put the post on the RSJ edge, however that leaves 40mm of the RSJ not supported and there is an overhang of 20mm where the post is not touching anything. Should the post be in the middle ?

Hi Carol, its hard to say without seeing it, but usually when an RSJ is fitted it has to have at least 150mm bearing either side to support it.(when it goes in a wall)
Are the posts bolted to the RSJ?

Steve
