Lead work - parapet walls - pitched roof
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.20 PM
I have just had my roof replaced, its a pitched roof, mid victorian terrace with parapet walls including chimneys. The lead work on the parapet walls has not been chased into the walls. Roofer said as the walls are going to be rendered, chasing is not required as the bell cast bead will hold it in place. Is this common practice or should the lead work always be chased into the wall?

it should have been chased into the wall, the one thing you are guaranteed is the render will crack at some point and this will allow water ingress behind the lead work creating dampness,
but saying that it is common see it all the time.
good luck Alex

Hi, it should have been set underneath the coping stones if present but otherwise yes, it should have been chased into the wall prior to rendering.
