Kitchen Fitting

Extractor Fan - Recirculating Extractor problem

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

Just had a brand new kitchen fitted and upon quote stage, they asked what we would like to do about the extractor. We said we would like one which was integrated - like you open it towards you and the fan goes off and extracts out of the ceiling to the outside. (Not sure what they are called and not sure if they still make these) We got a recirculating integrated extractor with carbon. I don't want this and need the steam to go out of the building. All the quote said was "Canopy Hood". I thought that it was an integrated extractor fan which extracts to outside. Builders now saying that the integrated extractor fan with carbon was what we wanted. I have never heard of this extractor before until I read the new manual for the fan. They said they did not seal up the duct in the ceiling. It is a new purchase and the previous owners had an external extractor fan that went up to the ceiling above the hob. I still have the photos of the old kitchen to prove this. It would cost extra to change the extractor now. Is there anything I can do about this? It seems like they are trying to fob me off. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pretty careless of them not to connect it to the old duct. Should have a simple lever on the extractor to switch between recirculating and ducting a bit like in your car. Just need some 4" hose and clips to connect it all together, If it doesn't duct at all the kick up a stink and have it replaced.

Should be simple enough, sounds like 30 mins work and quite likely no material cost If the old duct is still there. If you ask nicely I’m sure they will come back and sort it and keep their customer happy, as we all do. Shame they didn’t make it clearer to you in the first place

If the old duct is there and no other work was required and it was simply to connect to the new hood I dont see why they wouldn't do it. If there was new duct to be ran or holes to core then that would be over and above the hood installation. Hope this helps
